Just like us, kids have a lot to do, and they need plenty of quality sleep to keep up. When your child isn’t getting a good night’s rest, every area of their life is affected, from how they learn to even how they grow.
Our specialized sleep team helps you get to the bottom of your child’s sleep challenges, giving them the care they need to grow and thrive.
Several symptoms can point to a sleep disorder in your child. Some are physical, like snoring, pauses in breathing and choking during sleep. Others are behavioral, like hyperactivity, irritability and depression.
At Atrium Health Levine Children’s Sleep Medicine, we care for a variety of conditions affecting sleep, including:
Once we understand what’s affecting your child’s sleep, we’re able to recommend long-term solutions that help them sleep better, both now and as they grow up.
Treatment looks different for every child. These are just a few ways we might help improve your child’s sleep:
Performed in one of our pediatric sleep labs, a sleep study (polysomnogram) is an overnight test that more closely examines your child’s sleeping patterns. Every aspect of how your child sleeps can be tracked, including their brain waves, heartbeat, movement, breathing and oxygen levels. Though there might be a lot of sensors, rest assured they’re all painless – in fact, most kids sleep well, even with the equipment on.
Though pediatric sleep studies are similar to adult sleep studies, we always treat kids like kids. With our family-friendly environment, kid-sized equipment and age-appropriate care, we make sure your child’s stay is as comfortable as possible. To help your child feel at home, we encourage parents and caregivers to spend the night as well and to bring their child’s favorite bedtime books, pajamas and toys.
After the study, our pediatric sleep specialist analyzes the data, giving us a better understanding of your child’s condition so we can develop the right treatment plan for them.

But too often, sleep disorders only tell part of the story, and your child’s sleep care team is also closely connected to other Levine Children’s specialists. This can include neurologists, pulmonologists and behavioral health experts, as well as ear, nose and throat surgeons, all working together to give your child the restful night’s sleep they deserve.
