What does an internal medicine doctor do?
Internal medicine providers, also called internists, treat adults ages 18 and up. In addition to traditional primary care services – such as wellness visits and sick care – these providers are often specially trained in other areas of medicine. This allows them to offer precise diagnoses and treatments of complex conditions and catch minor health issues before they become major health concerns.
What are common internal medicine subspecialties?
Providers who practice internal medicine often specialize in conditions related to body systems such as the heart, lungs or kidneys. Some common areas of internal medicine subspecialties are:
