As caregivers there are some things that are out of your control and challenging but making your space baby friendly should not be one. A safe environment is important as the baby continues to grow and explore. Proving a safe space dedicated to the needs of your baby will help them gain independence, learn new skills, and it will help build a trusting relationship between you and your baby. Creating a safe space should not be complicated or difficult.

Some tips for making your space baby-friendly include:

  • Create an open space in a corner of a room, or mat that allows for free movement.
  • Act as a guide and observer while the bay is playing and exploring.
  • Install childproof locks on all drawers and cabinets and cover all electrical outlets.
  • Put away small objects in a secure location to avoid choking hazards.
  • Avoid smoking inside or the same space as your child.
  • Clean your spaces often.
  • Do not introduce electronics early on

In addition to making your home physically safe and comfortable for baby, ensure the relationship between you and your baby’s caregivers are strong.
