Your Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Care Team
Levine Cancer's sarcoma team consists of fellowship-trained physicians in orthopedic oncology, surgical oncology, medical oncology and sarcoma pathology.
Each week, our oncologists meet with radiologists, surgeons, pathologists and rehabilitation specialists to discuss your case and determine the most effective treatment plan tailored to your needs. The result: high-quality care from evaluation to treatment to recovery.
Advanced Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Treatment
Your sarcoma treatment options include:
- Surgery to remove your cancer while maintaining healthy tissue and vital function of your affected limb or organ
- Radiation therapy, such as proton beam therapy, to shrink your tumor before surgery and reduce the risk of your cancer coming back after surgery
- Chemotherapy to shrink or kill your cancer with powerful medications that may be given in pill form or through an IV tube
Proton therapy now available for sarcoma
Levine Cancer is the first and only program in the Carolinas with proton beam therapy, an advanced type of radiation therapy.
For some patients with bone cancer, proton therapy offers a powerful advantage: it precisely targets tumors with less damage to healthy tissue.
That means fewer side effects, a lower risk of long-term complications and a better quality of life during and after treatment.
