America's Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers 2022, presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., highlights the nation's top physical rehabilitation facilities based on quality of care, quality of service, quality of follow-up care and accommodation and amenities relative to in-state competition.

Five Atrium Health physical rehabilitation centers have been named to Newsweek's 2022 list of "America's Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers." We’re extremely proud to be number 1 in North Carolina.

Quest for Quality Prize

The American Hospital Association Quest for Quality Prize is one of the most important awards in healthcare – and winning it is one of our greatest accomplishments. Carolinas Rehabilitation is the first rehabilitation hospital in the nation to ever receive this award.

This honor was given to us because of our innovation, leadership and our ability to provide quality care that is safe as well as patient and family centered. This award validates our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible care to our patients.

40 years of CARF® accreditations

A CARF accreditation is a high honor from a top third-party organization – and a seal of approval you can trust.

The main purpose of CARF is to evaluate rehabilitation programs’ abilities to meet specific standards that factor into better outcomes for patients, like success rates and patient satisfaction (ours is consistently 95 percent or higher).

We’ve earned accreditation from CARF for 12 of our programs – the most of any rehabilitation center in North Carolina – including the world’s first CARF-accredited cancer rehabilitation program. This means you can be confident in the high-quality care we provide.

EQUADR℠

Sharing best practice information is one of the best ways to improve care. That’s why we created the EQUADR (Exchanged Quality Data for Rehabilitation) network, which aims to improve the overall quality and safety of rehabilitation services for patients before, during and after their hospital stay.

In order to learn and share best practices across the nation, we developed a rehab-specific quality database. This first-of-its-kind platform is now used by nearly 40 rehab hospitals and has helped prevent over 1,000 patient safety events (unrelated to the natural course of an illness or underlying condition).

By creating EQUADR, Carolinas Rehabilitation became the first rehabilitation hospital to develop a rehabilitation Patient Safety Organization designated by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Additional accreditations and designations:

• Carolinas Rehabilitation, Carolinas Rehabilitation - Mount Holly, Carolinas Rehabilitation - NorthEast, Atrium Health Pineville Rehabilitation Hospital and Levine Children’s Hospital were awarded Aspire to Excellence® CARF accreditation for 11 programs.
• We’re a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System follow-up site, which helps advance TBI treatment and research.
• We’re a designated Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and a Patient Safety Organization (PSO); both help improve the quality and safety of healthcare in America.
• We were the first rehabilitation hospital to operate as a PSO and were among the first PSOs in the nation.
• We maintain accreditation from The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
