Center for Advanced Practice

The Center for Advance Practice (CAP) is an innovative advanced practice provider program initiated by Atrium Health. The program will give APPs robust, curriculum-based clinical training that will result in more confident, successful APPs.

Such practitioners include Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Midwives.

Atrium Health is one of the first healthcare systems in the nation to create a system-wide, comprehensive approach for optimizing the crucial role of APPs in response to the changing healthcare delivery platform.

The CAP Program Will Include:

  • A centralized coordinating center to optimize core services related to Advanced Practice Providers
  • A centralized liaison for all APP students across more than 900 care locations
  • A paid, post-graduate APP fellowship program for NPs and PAs

What We Do

  • Collaboration and coordination with physician leadership
  • Coordination of APP education within Atrium Health (graduate, post-grad and CME)
  • Resource for departments and practices on issues surrounding APP employment (regulatory/credentialing)
  • Center for research on best practices of APP utilization (practice model innovation – teaching collaborative
    decision making and delegation)
  • Center for professional development and mentoring for APPs and physicians
  • Platform for system-wide communication to and from APPs
  • Address APP satisfaction/retention
  • Center to coordinate clinical placements of APPs in Atrium Health facilities
  • Clearinghouse of information regarding APP utilization and functions within Atrium Health

The NP Rules and Regulations video and the Keeping your license in good standing with the North Carolina Medical Board video will provide Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and supervising Physicians vital information to help providers understand the rules and regulations of practicing within Atrium Health and the state of North Carolina. This is presented by the Atrium Health Center for Advanced Practice as a tool to ensure that all Atrium Health practices are in good standing for licensure throughout the system and state levels.
