The Atrium Health Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship in Orthopedics is a 12-month program that equips APPs to deliver quality patient care along the full spectrum of musculoskeletal acuity. Administered by the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute, APP Fellows gain exposure to operating room, inpatient and outpatient clinical settings in hospital and clinic settings in the Greater Charlotte Region. Fellows will advance to having their own independent clinics, enabling them to provide acute, follow up, preoperative and postoperative care.

Core Clinical Skills Development 

  • Surgical first assist 
  • Simple and complex wound closure 
  • Dislocation and fracture reduction 
  • Cast, splint and brace placement 
  • Arthrocentesis 
  • Joint and soft tissue injections
  • Compartment pressure measurement

Clinical Rotations (2-8 weeks in length)

  • Hip and Knee reconstruction
  • Shoulder reconstruction
  • Hand and upper extremity
  • Foot and ankle 
  • Sports Medicine (Orthopedic and Primary Care)
  • Level 1 Orthopedic Trauma
  • Pediatric Orthopedics
  • Physiatry
