The HALM Fellowship provides advanced training for physicians seeking to become effective clinical leaders within complex health care systems this two-year program (one year if already have MHA or MBA) is designed for physicians directly after residency. As one of the few ACGME‑accredited programs of its kind in the country, this fellowship combines hands‑on administrative experience with structured academic development. Graduates emerge prepared to assume impactful medical director roles immediately upon completion.

Curriculum Overview

Clinical and Administrative Time

  • 0.5 clinical time as an attending in own specialty
  • 0.5 administrative time

Compensation and Academic Training

  • Paid at PGY+1 salary (next year higher after last year of residency)
  • Completion of the Wake Forest MHA program (tuition covered by fellowship)

Rotations and Leadership Exposure

  • First year focused at facility level (CMC/Mercy/LCH)
  • Second year focused on larger service lines and enterprise‑level operations

How to Apply

  • One‑page (approximately 500 words) personal statement explaining your interest in the program
  • Letter of Recommendation from current residency program director
  • 1–2 additional faculty letters (3 letters max)

Interview Timeline

  • Interviews occur in September
  • Final decisions issued by October 1, 2026
  • Fellowship begins July 1, 2027
