What types of applicants do you typically accept into your program?
We look for Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency graduates in family medicine, med/peds, internal medicine or emergency medicine residency programs. Because of the amount of adult medicine in our ambulatory and sports medicine clinics, we do not accept applications from graduates of pediatric programs at this time.
What attributes do you typically look for in an applicant?
We look for applicants with a commitment to primary care sports medicine evidenced through participation in game coverage, pre-participation physical exams and sports medicine conferences. We also seek out candidates with leadership potential who demonstrate a willingness to educate other trainees including students and residents.
Are there opportunities to rotate with your program?
Yes, we have limited 2-week opportunities to rotate with multiple sports medicine providers. We recommend applying early as spots are limited.

How has your program done in the match?
Our program began in 2005 with a single fellow and increased to two fellows in 2016. The program has done very well in the match - we've never scrambled or not filled.
What is the pass rate among previous graduates?
Our graduates have a 100% pass rate on CAQ exam on their first attempt.
Does your program sponsor visas?
We do not currently sponsor visas.
What sets your program apart?
We offer varying levels of coverage opportunity at (FBS) Division I, (FCS) Division II and high school levels, mass participation events, and experiences with professional sports including the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC, and Charlotte Knights. Our multiple primary care sports medicine providers are all CAQ certified and nationally recognized orthopedists who enjoy teaching. We provide ample training with interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, regenerative medicine and experience with ECG interpretation and athletes, as part of one of the largest mass participation screening events in the country.
