Dear Fellowship Applicant:
It is my pleasure to introduce you, as a potential fellowship candidate, to our Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Program at Atrium Health. We have been fortunate to match fellows who exemplify the utmost surgical acumen, professionalism, compassion and dedication to patient care.
Aside from having a wonderful group of existing fellows, our program has many strengths. Our clinical faculty received their fellowship training from a diverse group of fellowship programs in the United States, and all gynecologically-trained faculty perform vaginal, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. We develop collaborative patient care plans both during our weekly preoperative conferences and in the operating room. Surgical and clinical collaboration with our colleagues in other gynecologic subspecialties, colorectal surgery, reconstructive urology, bariatric surgery, gastroenterology, plastic/reconstructive surgery and other fields occur on a routine basis. Such an interdisciplinary approach to patient care assures that we graduate well-trained surgeons who consider a patient’s pelvic reconstructive surgical needs in a broad clinical and surgical context.
Fellows’ high surgical volumes are balanced by protected research time throughout fellowship. Faculty and fellow research interests are diverse and have been well-supported by our department. Our fellows have presented abstracts nationally and internationally. They have also been invited to assist in surgical demonstrations and lead national roundtables. Thus far, several of our fellows has pursued a randomized controlled trial as their thesis project while also maintaining a high surgical volume.
In summary, we aspire to train fellows who desire to be facile in all surgical modalities, enjoy teaching, understand the tenets of research and have the highest goals in clinical care.
Sincerely,
Megan Tarr, MD, MS
