Welcome

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Pediatrics Residency Program at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to train the next generation of pediatricians, and we take that commitment seriously.

Our residents care for a diverse patient population across the full spectrum of pediatric medicine, preparing them for careers in general pediatrics, subspecialty fellowship training, inpatient and outpatient practice, and leadership roles in academic medicine.

A Community Where People and Ideas Thrive

At the heart of our program is a culture grounded in respect, professionalism, inclusion, and well-being. We believe excellent medical education occurs in an environment where people feel valued, supported, and challenged to grow. Our residents are integral members of the care team and work closely with dedicated faculty, nurses, and interprofessional colleagues in a collegial, family-centered setting.

Charlotte is a vibrant and growing community, and our program is deeply connected to the region we serve. Through care delivered at Levine Children’s Hospital and across more than 30 affiliated primary care and community sites, residents gain broad exposure while developing a strong sense of purpose and advocacy for children and families.

Excellence in Education, Mentorship, and Innovation

Education is a core mission of our department. Our curriculum emphasizes a strong foundation in general pediatrics, progressive responsibility, and flexibility to support diverse career paths. Residents benefit from outstanding subspecialty exposure, longitudinal mentorship, and opportunities for scholarly activity, quality improvement, and advocacy.

Mentorship and sponsorship are essential to developing excellent physicians and leaders. Our faculty are deeply invested in teaching and professional development, and many are actively engaged in regional and national leadership, research, and educational innovation. We are committed to supporting our residents not only as learners, but as individuals—preparing them for lifelong careers of learning, leadership, and service.

Caring for Children: A Privilege and a Responsibility

Caring for children is both a profound privilege and an enormous responsibility. We strive to instill this mindset in everything we do—whether caring for a medically complex child in our intensive care units, partnering with families in the outpatient setting, or advocating for better health outcomes in our communities.

Our program aligns with Advocate Health’s purpose: From discovery to everyday moments, we’re redefining care – for you, for us, for all. Through excellence in clinical care, education, and advocacy, we prepare pediatricians who are ready to meet the evolving needs of children in Charlotte, the Carolinas, and beyond.
