Why CMC? During my interview at CMC, a resident shared a piece of advice that stayed with me throughout the entire application process, “Choose the program you can’t stop thinking about.” For me, that was CMC. It remained at the top of my mind, not only because it met my goals for training with a high acuity and strong patient volume, but because of the culture I witnessed. I was drawn to the sense of community and encouragement on every level, from residents to attendings. All of my interviewers were very open and kind, and they seemed genuinely excited to get to know me personally. It was evident in my interactions, but also the outpouring of support and resources from the institutional level into women’s maternal and reproductive health. Now that I’m here, I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I’m truly thrilled to have the opportunity to train at CMC!

Why CMC? My desire to train at CMC was in large part due to the wonderful experience I had as a visiting medical student. During my month in Charlotte, I was impressed by the program's dedication to education at all levels including a well-rounded didactic and simulation curriculum. I witnessed residents and faculty demonstrate kindness, respect, and professionalism while providing excellent patient care. My interview day with CMC confirmed my positive impression of the program, as I could sense genuine camaraderie and passion for education from the faculty across all subspecialties in the department. I am confident that four years of training at CMC will provide the clinical education and surgical skills necessary to excel in any career within Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Why CMC? During my fourth year at Wake, I did an acting internship at CMC. From my first week on the gynecology service, it felt like the kind of place where I could truly grow. The residents were incredibly welcoming and helped me navigate a new hospital system with so much support. I appreciated that most of the training happens at one main site, which builds strong relationships among the care teams. I was also drawn to the patient population. I'm originally from Venezuela and deeply passionate about caring for Spanish- speaking and immigrant women, so it was important to train somewhere with a diverse patient population, which Charlotte definitely offers.
Surgical training was another key factor. I’m excited (and a little nervous!) about becoming a surgeon, so I wanted a program with high surgical volume to help me become skilled and confident over the next four years. Overall, CMC checked all my boxes, but what really stood out was the sense of community. That feeling continued after Match Day, when residents added me to group chats and faculty, I’d met during my AI reached out to congratulate me. That support confirmed I’d found the right place.

Why CMC? I chose CMC for so many reasons! I want to be an excellent surgeon and potentially pursue fellowship, and the faculty here are exactly who will make that happen. The opportunities are endless, and the clinical experience is unmatched. What really stood out to me, though, were the people. During my away rotation, the residents welcomed me wholeheartedly and made me feel like family. It felt like a place where I’d be challenged and come out a compassionate physician and fantastic surgeon, but also be wholly supported as a person. Choosing CMC was the easiest decision I’ll ever make!

Why CMC? When applying for residency, I knew I was searching for a program that had high volume, high acuity, and early surgical exposure. Outside of clinical duties, I wanted a program that valued resident feedback, wellness, and most importantly diversity. On my interview day at CMC, I knew that this program exceeded everything I wanted in a place to train! CMC is truly a gem and I immediately could sense how supportive the residents and faculty were, which made me want to join this incredible group of physicians. Charlotte is a beautiful and diverse city that is growing rapidly and I am so excited to train here for the next four years!

Why CMC? When I was applying to residency, I needed to find a program that offered high volume and acuity with a supportive and uplifting community. Additionally, I wanted a program where I would have excellent generalist training while getting exposure to various subspecialties and diverse patient populations. I loved my interview day at CMC. It was filled with so much positivity and warmth that my genuine reaction was, “That was really fun, I hope I match here.” It felt like CMC had everything I could want and need from a residency program. CMC had the bonus of my family being nearby. We were all so excited to see CMC when I opened my envelope on match day and I feel so lucky to be joining the CMC family!
